Dad watches on

Jonathan's contra dance piano playing continues to be in demand. Today, Hammered Dulcimer Performer David Neiman brought Jonathan out to play piano with him at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. David has been a great guide for us since we started playing contra dance music, in fact David invited us to play our first Contra Dance at MIT last October.

Today was a chance for me to be just an audience member, and appreciate the fine musical chemistry between David and Jonathan.

Jonathan also has started playing button accordion. This allows many fun instrument combinations between the three of us.

Audiences were appreciative, sometimes sticking around for a couple tunes standing around in that very satisfying arc we street performers love. And between filling up the tip bucket yesterday and today, Jonathan's wallet did pretty well this weekend : )

Nothing like some Apple Crisp to kick off the summer ...

Here in Massachusetts, it seems to be a common thought that summer lasts from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I couldn't think of a better way to start the season than by relaxing with some jumbled Apple Crisp myself.

Jonathan played with David Nieman, who introduced them at one point as 2/3 of Apple Crisp and pointed to Avi sitting on the sidelines with a bum leg and no vibraphone. The sounds of the hammered dulcimer blending with the piano accompaniment flowed around Quincy Market, tickling the ears of viewers watching other acts in the performance fair.

The fabulous tunes attracted quite a number of listeners, several of whom asked David about his dulcimer and bought CDs.

Avi and Jonathan switched off on keyboard a few times; and, Jonathan even played accordion with them for a few melodies.

The next time I go out, I think I'll try to bring more contradancers. Now for some ice cream!

Apple Crisp at Faneuil Hall, 5/29

It was great to hear Apple Crisp at Faneuil Hall on Sunday, May 29! Quite a crowd took interest in the duo, pausing to listen, taunt Avi with balloon sabres, and toss money at their feet. Their unique sound definitely adds to the atmosphere.
